Great Steak Appetizer!

This Holiday Season I had a great appetizer using Filet Mignon. The cook spread Boursin cheese on Melba Crackers and then place a thin slice of Filet Mignon cooked medium over the spread. The Filet Mignon melted in my mouth. The crispiness of the cracker and smoothness of the cheese really complimented the steak.

I decided to replicate the recipe for New Years eve. Instead of using Filet Mignon I chose Top Sirloin. They were fantastic, I gave the recipe to several of my guests. Using Top Sirloin helped keep the cost down a bit.

Hope you enjoy!

Add new Flavor to your Strip Steak

I am always looking for new ways to prepare the Strip Steak. Recently, at a local restaurant I inquired about the sauce drizzled on my Filet Mignon. Not wanting to give away any secrets, the owner would only say he likes to add a cheese sauce to steaks.

I was planning a dinner party for 12 guests and I wanted to try something different. Remembering what the owner had said, I decided to try fresh goat cheese on the Strip Steaks I was preparing. I cooked the Strips on both sides until I had reached the desired doneness. Next, I turned off the grill and sprinkled the fresh goat cheese on the Strip Steak. I closed the grill lid, and let the steak sit for about a minute. As I placed the Steaks on each plate, the cheese was just about to melt.

My guest loved the presentation of the steak. It gave the plate some added color and texture. Adding fresh goat cheese is an inexpensive way to change up your Steak dinner. Also, look for online steak stores to offer steak discounts and stock up! You are then ready to entertain without the extra expense of paying full price for steak.

I have searched the web and there are other recipes that are very similar to this with other varieties of cheeses and cuts of beef. The goat cheese impressed my guests and I am sure it will impress yours!

The Top Sirloin

The Top Sirloin is cut from the lower portion of the ribs. This portion of the muscle does quite a bit of work compared to the Filet Mignon. Still considered a premium steak, the Top Sirloin is the most affordable.

When purchasing a Top Sirloin steak it is important to be aware of the labeling on the steak. The Top Sirloin, is the most tender of this portion of muscle. The bottom sirloin is less tender. If you see a steak labeled Sirloin only, it is more than likely a bottom sirloin.

If you are planning a party and you want to serve steak, yet you are on a budget, give the Top Sirloin a try. With the right type of marinade along with olive oil brushed on, this steak is sure impress.
